Membership at the Flagler Museum
To walk through the halls of the Flagler Museum is to remember
the indomitable spirit of America's Gilded Age and to be
reminded that anything is possible.
In
the space of one lifetime, from the end of the Civil War
to the Stock Market Crash of 1929, something truly remarkable
happened in America. Virtually everything we take for granted
as Americans today can be traced back to this special time.
Automobiles, telephones, phonographs, motion pictures, airplanes,
indoor plumbing, electric lights, mass transportation, mass
communication, and the modern scientific disciplines of
anthropology, biology, paleontology, geology, psychology,
and archaeology, all came into being during this time. The
individuals who profited from these advancements and changes
saw themselves as the heirs of Western Culture and as such
built grand edifices, collected art on an incredible scale
as symbols of their new status, and established practically
all of our nation's great museums. No wonder this special
time in our history is known today as America’s Gilded
Age.
By the 1960s, many of the homes built by these Captains
of Industry and Commerce from America's Gilded Age became
museums. In Palm Beach, the Flagler Museum is just such
a place. Built in 1902 as a home for one of America's truly
remarkable figures, the Flagler Museum is a window allowing
us to look back in time through the eyes of the man most
responsible for the Florida we know today. The Florida we
know is a legacy of America's Gilded Age and Flagler's imagination
and drive. The Flagler Museum is the place to rediscover
this remarkable man and a special time in America's history.
As a Member, you will join a growing number of individuals
committed to furthering the Flagler Museum's mission of
preserving, researching, and interpreting Whitehall, its
collections, and materials related to the life of Henry
Morrison Flagler. Your support will help preserve this important
American historical site and provide a unique educational
experience for visitors from around the world. Through the
Flagler Museum, more than 100,000 visitors a year discover
Florida's rich history and the indomitable spirit of America's
Gilded Age.
