Education Manager
Job Objective
The Education Manager is responsible for developing, executing, and evaluating a successful and balanced series of mission-based programs for adults and youth audiences. He or she serves as the institutional lead for public programs that connect audiences to the Flagler Museum in meaningful ways that contribute to increased attendance, expanded audience, sustained engagement, advanced global relevance and deepened public value. The Education Manager reports to the Curator.
Duties and Responsibilities
School Programs
• Insure that the content of all education programs remains relevant to targeted audiences, meets, or exceeds, established standards, supports Museum goals, and promotes enthusiasm and interest in the values expressed by Henry Flagler, Whitehall and the Gilded Age
• Maintain, develop, promote, implement, and evaluate curriculum for Museum school programs both on and off-site to insure they meet the needs of teachers and students, facilitate inquiry-based learning, and correlate to current history standards.
• Develop new relationships and maintain established relationships with area educators, works with them to increase their understanding of the museum as an educational resource and instructs them on ways to integrate the visual arts into their curriculum through in-museum programs, special school projects, and teacher materials
• Produces grade-specific, interdisciplinary museum lesson plans that utilize the Museum’s collections/exhibitions in conjunction with the FL State Standards.
Museum Programming
• Management of public programming including Easter Egg Hunt, Lecture Series, Music Series, Piano and Organ Demonstrations, Bluegrass in the Pavilion, Christmas Tree Lighting, and Holiday Evening Tours.
• Development and management of the Self-Guided Audio Tour
Docent Oversight
• Recruit, hire and on-board new Docents
• Schedule and supervise the Docent Training
• Create and maintain a docent schedule that ensures adequate coverage for regular tours, special tours, and public programs.
• Assign docents to specific tours or programs based on their expertise and availability.
• Regularly communicate with docents to provide updates, address concerns, and provide feedback on performance.
• Conduct periodic evaluations to assess docents' performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
Administrative Duties
• Prepare and manage the Educational program budget
• Prepare and manage the Docent program budget
• Assist in preparation of grant proposals and reports related to the Educational and Docent program
Qualifications
• At least 3 years of experience with K-12 students in a formal or informal setting with at least 1 year in a supervisory role (staff, interns and/or volunteers)
• Bachelor's degree in education, art history, museum studies, history or another related field, master’s degree preferred
• Deep and current knowledge of art and/or museum education theories and practices
• Demonstrated leadership, teambuilding, communications, project management and financial management skills
• Positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, flexibility and commitment to collaboration, customer service, strategy and innovation
• English fluency
